Privacy notice

How Durham Tees Valley School collects, uses and protects your family's information.

Last updated: 15 July 2026

Who we are

Durham Tees Valley School (“DTVS”, “we”, “us”) is a non-profit, volunteer-led weekend Islamic school based at Egglescliffe School and Sixth Form, Eaglescliffe, Stockton-on-Tees. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this notice. If you have any questions, contact us at dtvschool2014@gmail.com or by SMS on 07877081290 or 07484149020 (please contact us via sms only.).

What we collect

When you apply to enrol a child, we ask for information through our Google admission form — typically your child’s name and date of birth, your name and contact details (email and/or phone number), and any relevant additional needs or medical information you choose to share so we can look after your child properly. We don’t collect more than we need to run the school safely.

How we use it

We use this information to:

  • process enrolment and place your child in the right class;
  • contact you about classes, timings, events and school updates;
  • add you to the DTVS parents’ WhatsApp group, if you choose to join;
  • meet our safeguarding responsibilities — see our Safeguarding Policy.

Our legal basis is your consent (when you submit the admission form) and our legitimate interest in running the school safely and keeping families informed. Where safeguarding law requires it, we may also rely on legal obligation.

Who we share it with

Admission form responses are held in Google Forms/Workspace, which acts as a data processor on our behalf. If you join the parents’ WhatsApp group, your phone number is visible to other group members. We do not sell or share your data with any other third party, and we never use it for marketing without your separate consent.

How long we keep it

We keep enrolment information for as long as your child attends DTVS, and for a limited period afterwards where we need to for safeguarding, legal or administrative reasons. You can ask us to delete information we no longer need to keep at any time.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or ask us to delete your personal data, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these, contact us at dtvschool2014@gmail.com. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
